New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) On Sunday, the Government revealed that Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is set to be awarded the Ashok Chakra, while Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair will receive the Kirti Chakra.
In anticipation of the 77th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu has sanctioned the bestowal of gallantry awards to 70 personnel from the Armed Forces for their remarkable bravery, exemplary dedication, and sacrifice in the service of the nation. Among these, six awards will be presented posthumously.
The list of gallantry awards encompasses one Ashok Chakra, three Kirti Chakras, 13 Shaurya Chakras (including one posthumous), one Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry), 44 Sena Medals (Gallantry) (with five posthumous), six Nau Sena Medals (Gallantry), and two Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry).
The Ashok Chakra being awarded to Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is the highest peacetime gallantry honor in the country.
Shukla participated in the International Space Station mission under Axiom-4, completing his spaceflight in 2025. He became the second Indian astronaut to journey into space, following Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma.
