New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) An Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot tragically lost his life, while another is in critical condition after their two-seater Jaguar fighter jet crashed close to Gujarat's Jamnagar Airfield, as confirmed by the IAF on Thursday.

The unfortunate incident took place late Wednesday night in Suvarda village, located 12 km from Jamnagar city.

The aircraft, engaged in a night training mission, reportedly experienced a technical malfunction, prompting the pilots to eject.

In an official communication, the IAF expressed profound sorrow regarding the accident and indicated that a Court of Inquiry has been established to investigate the crash's causes.

"An IAF Jaguar two-seater aircraft took off from Jamnagar Airfield and crashed during a night mission. The pilots encountered a technical malfunction and initiated ejection, successfully avoiding harm to both the airfield and local residents," the statement detailed.

"Regrettably, one pilot succumbed to his injuries, while the other is currently receiving medical care at a hospital in Jamnagar," the IAF further noted.

The force also expressed condolences to the deceased pilot's family, stating, "IAF deeply regrets this loss of life and stands resolutely with the grieving family. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to determine the accident's cause."

Footage of the crash circulating on social media displayed a flaming field with debris scattered throughout the area. The cockpit and tail section of the aircraft were observed lying in different locations, engulfed in flames.

Officials disclosed that the unfortunate twin-seater Jaguar was on a routine training sortie when the mishap transpired.

This aircraft, recognized for its twin-engine design, has played a vital role in the Indian Air Force since its introduction in the late 1970s.

Despite undergoing numerous upgrades over the years, incidents involving Jaguars have raised concerns regarding their operational lifespan.

This incident follows closely on the heels of another Jaguar crash in Haryana's Ambala on March 7, which occurred due to a system malfunction. In that situation, the pilot successfully maneuvered the jet away from populated areas before ejecting safely.
