Mumbai, Sep 26 (NationPress) As the Indian Air Force’s legendary MiG-21 fighter jet embarked on its final flight after over six decades of dedicated service, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam commended the decision, describing it as a notable action that underscores the necessity for continual innovation and modernization within the nation’s military forces.
In a statement to IANS, Nirupam remarked: "The MiG-21 has been a stalwart of the Indian Air Force for nearly 63 years, significantly contributing to our national defense. It is time to retire this aircraft and embrace new technology, modern operators, and upgraded equipment. This initiative by the Air Force is commendable as regular updates and innovations are crucial in defense sectors."
He further emphasized that the retirement of the MiG-21 is a significant step towards fortifying India’s future security framework.
Discussing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent launch of Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana through video conferencing, which saw Rs 10,000 directly deposited into the accounts of 75 lakh women—totaling Rs 7,500 crore—Nirupam stated: "A greater emphasis on supporting women is urgently required. Following the Lok Sabha elections, the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ was initiated in Maharashtra, providing direct financial assistance to women. Similar programs are now being explored to assist around 7.5 million underprivileged women out of approximately 40 million."
He noted that these schemes not only uplift women's economic status but also lay a robust foundation for a more just society.
“Similar initiatives have already been implemented in Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. This new program will empower mothers and sisters in Bihar as well," he added.
In light of recent trade disputes, Nirupam criticized US President Donald Trump for his decision to impose a 100% tariff on Indian pharmaceuticals.
“The US has already established a 50% tariff on Indian steel, cement, textiles, and medicines. The new 100% tariff on Indian medications will inevitably raise healthcare costs for American consumers,” he warned.
Nirupam cautioned that such actions would ultimately harm the American public more than India.
"I urge Donald Trump to set aside personal pride and anti-India sentiments. He should prioritize the well-being of American citizens. Reducing these tariffs will benefit US residents, Indian exporters, and enhance bilateral relations," he emphasized.
Addressing the escalating poster controversy in Uttar Pradesh, Nirupam expressed deep concern over the communal discord incited by the 'I Love Muhammad' campaign, which originated in Kanpur and has since spread to Varanasi.
“This campaign is a calculated attempt to provoke Muslim youth and incite societal unrest. In response, spiritual leaders have launched the 'I Love Mahadev' campaign. As India is predominantly Hindu, any challenge to the majority’s identity is likely to elicit a reaction," he stated.
He further cautioned that if tensions rise, the situation could escalate into riots.
"Those responsible for the 'I Love Muhammad' campaign will carry full responsibility for any ensuing violence and must be prepared to face strict legal repercussions."
