Worldwide, yoga demonstrations occurred in 191 countries at around 1,300 locations, leading to an impressive total of 2,000 global events.
This extensive international participation reaffirms yoga's universal significance in enhancing global health, harmony, and well-being, according to a statement from the ministry.
The 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY 2025), celebrated on June 21, witnessed remarkable success with record-breaking global participation.
“Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the celebrations for IDY have highlighted yoga's growing global significance and India’s crucial role in fostering holistic health and wellness,” the ministry remarked.
India also secured two notable Guinness World Records in Visakhapatnam, showcasing yoga's widespread acceptance and deep-rooted impact.
The first record was for the largest gathering for a yoga session at a single venue, with an astonishing 302,000 participants on June 21; the second record involved the largest mass Surya Namaskar demonstration, featuring 22,122 tribal students on June 20.
Fifteen significant yoga events were hosted at culturally diverse and strategically important locations throughout the country. These events aimed to symbolize India's natural beauty, national spirit, and civilizational ethos, while promoting the message of wellness and unity through yoga.
Yoga demonstrations also highlighted physical resilience and national service in some of the most challenging terrains in the country, such as the Siachen Glacier, where Indian Army personnel performed yoga at the world’s highest battlefield, and Galwan Valley, where sessions were conducted at over 15,000 feet, symbolizing India's message of peace and inner strength.
Special yoga sessions held at historically and spiritually significant locations showcased India's rich cultural heritage, such as NaMo Ghat in Varanasi. The 91 UP battalion of the NCC led vibrant sessions along the banks of the Ganga, reflecting spiritual vibrancy and youth engagement.
The Ministry of Ayush expressed sincere gratitude to various ministries and departments, state governments, the international community, Indian Armed Forces, yoga institutions and associations, educational establishments, NGOs, and millions of yoga devotees globally for contributing to making IDY 2025 a remarkable celebration of unity, wellness, and peace.
