Visakhapatnam, June 21 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Saturday that India is enhancing the science of yoga through contemporary research, positioning the nation as a premier global destination for healing.
During the principal national event commemorating the 11th International Day of Yoga in Visakhapatnam, he mentioned that top medical institutions in the country are actively researching yoga, including significant studies at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.
“To promote yoga globally, India is advancing the science of yoga through modern research,” said the Prime Minister, who joined over three lakh participants in the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) at RK Beach.
“We are also fostering evidence-based therapies in yoga within the nation’s medical and research facilities. AIIMS Delhi has made notable contributions in this area. Their research indicates that yoga plays a vital role in treating cardiac and neurological conditions, along with significant benefits for women’s health and mental wellness,” he remarked.
He highlighted that the mantra of yoga and wellness is being propagated through the National Ayush Mission. “Digital technology has been instrumental in this initiative. More than 10 lakh events were recorded via the yoga and Yogandhra portals,” he noted.
PM Modi emphasized that the widespread yoga events across the nation reflect its increasing popularity. “We understand that the 'heal in India' mantra is gaining traction globally. India is becoming the foremost destination for global healing, with yoga playing a crucial role in this,” he affirmed.
He expressed satisfaction with the creation of the Common Yoga Protocol and acknowledged initiatives such as over 6.5 lakh certified yoga volunteers, approximately 130 recognized institutions, and a 10-day yoga module in medical colleges, all contributing to a holistic ecosystem.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that trained yoga instructors are being placed at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. Additionally, the government is issuing e-Ayush visas to ensure that the global community can benefit from India's wellness ecosystem.
Addressing the global challenge of rising obesity, the Prime Minister recalled his initiative to reduce oil consumption in food by 10 percent. He urged everyone to participate in this challenge and stressed the importance of awareness.
He stated that reducing oil intake, avoiding unhealthy diets, and practicing yoga are essential secrets to maintaining fitness.
The PM called for a mass movement around yoga, which promotes global peace, health, and harmony, envisioning a world where every individual starts their day with yoga for life balance, communities connect through yoga to alleviate stress, and yoga serves as a unifying force for humanity.
Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prakash Jadhav, along with several central and state ministers, participated in yoga alongside the Prime Minister.
Approximately 3.19 lakh individuals performed yoga simultaneously along a 28-km stretch from RK Beach to Bhogapuram.
Participants from 8 lakh locations across Andhra Pradesh, the country, and the globe joined this monumental event, poised to set a world record.
