Hyderabad, April 13 (NationPress) Describing the Waqf Amendment Act as ‘unconstitutional’, Congress MP Imran Masood stated on Sunday that if the Congress party gains power, they would rectify it within an hour.
“I urge you to pray for our victory. I assure you that once we are in power, we know how to resolve this swiftly,” he remarked during a gathering aimed at opposing the Waqf Act.
In response to a media inquiry, he noted that once they come to power democratically, Congress would address the issue in their own manner.
“I want to pose a question: where will you perform namaz if there are no mosques, and where will you lay your loved ones to rest if there are no graveyards?” he questioned the audience at the meeting organized by the All India Milli Council Telangana and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.
The Lok Sabha representative from Saharanpur also subtly invited leaders from rival parties to join Congress, asserting that it is the only party capable of confronting the ‘storm in the sea’.
“When a storm arises at sea, only a large vessel can endure it, not smaller boats. Thus, abandon the boats and prepare to board the ship. This is the sole solution. There is no alternative,” he explained.
Imran Masood remarked that the BJP’s claim of ‘400 paar’ remained merely a slogan, and although Congress has surpassed that number, it has never infringed upon the rights of any community. He emphasized that Congress has never made any citizen feel as though this nation does not belong to them.
Furthermore, Imran Masood pointed out that by opposing the Waqf Amendment Bill, 232 MPs have responded to those fostering hatred in the nation. “Among the 232 MPs who voted to uphold the Constitution, only 24 are Muslim MPs,” he stated.
Regarding the violence in Murshidabad, Imran Masood condemned all forms of violence.
He urged the youth to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. “This is a struggle to protect the Constitution, and if you step outside legal boundaries, the fight will lose its significance,” he cautioned.
He highlighted that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has made a nationwide appeal, and Chairman Khalid Saifullah Rahmani has encouraged everyone to act within the framework of the law.
Imran Masood, who also served on the Joint Committee of Parliament for the Waqf Bill, has submitted a petition to the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf Act.
He contended that the amendment to the Waqf Act “attacks the core of India’s constitutional commitment: that every community should manage its faith, institutions, and properties free from arbitrary government interference.”
