Mumbai, July 21 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, emphasized on Monday that the contributions of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have always had a global impact, stating that the acknowledgment of 12 of his forts as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO has officially recognized the universal significance of his achievements.
“This recognition fills the hearts of the entire nation and the Marathi community with pride,” he remarked during an event celebrating the designation of these 12 forts as World Heritage Sites.
He pointed out that the Central Government prioritized the nomination submitted by the Maharashtra government and formally endorsed these forts to UNESCO.
While other states proposed various sites, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was adamant that only the forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj should symbolize India. This initiative was supported by both the Central and State Governments.
Discussing the architectural brilliance and historical significance of the forts, he noted that Rajgad, Raigad, Pratapgad, Sindhudurg, Vijaydurg, Suvarnadurg, and Khanderi are not merely relics of the past; they stand as vital pillars of Swarajya.
“The challenges faced during the construction of these water forts are hard to fathom today. Yet, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj achieved the seemingly impossible. For instance, 32 lakh kg of lime and 10 lakh kg of iron were utilized for Sindhudurg Fort, showcasing the Maharaj’s foresight and governance skills,” he noted.
The Chief Minister also underscored the significance of forts in governance, stating that a fort forms the bedrock of a state. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj believed that safeguarding 363 forts would prevent any imperial force from conquering Swarajya.
In light of this momentous occasion, he expressed, "I accept this accolade on behalf of all those who played a role in this achievement."
While receiving the award from esteemed musician Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, the Chief Minister remarked, "His melodies and lyrics have instilled a sense of patriotism and pride among the Marathi populace. The motivation drawn from 'Shivkalyan Raja' remains inspiring to this day."
Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar stated that the valor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is unparalleled. His era exemplifies strategic warfare, courage, and commendable governance. He lauded the contributions of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as remarkable.
“Among the numerous forts established and renovated by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, 12 significant forts were included in the proposal 'Maratha Military Landscape.' Out of these, 11 forts are located in Maharashtra, and one is Jinji Fort in Tamil Nadu. The groundwork for this proposal was laid during the administration of Devendra Fadnavis,” he elaborated.
On this occasion, a program celebrating the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was conducted, featuring Marathi songs, memorial songs, and the Shivarajyabhishek ceremony at the Janata Raja Mahanatya.
