New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) India has significantly increased its electronics production by six times, establishing itself as the second largest mobile manufacturing nation globally, according to Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Saturday.
In a series of updates shared on social media platform X, Vaishnaw highlighted that the country’s electronic exports have surged eight times over the past 11 years, primarily due to the supportive measures from the Production Linked Incentive Scheme.
The PLI initiative for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing has drawn in investments exceeding Rs 13,475 crore and has facilitated a production worth around Rs 9.8 lakh crore in the electronics sector, fostering manufacturing, job creation, and export growth, he noted.
Furthermore, he pointed out that over 1.3 lakh jobs have been generated in the past five years, with electronics now ranking as India’s third-largest export category, a significant rise from its previous position of seventh.
Vaishnaw stated that the country initially concentrated on finished products, but the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme has enabled a transition towards enhancing capabilities for modules, components, sub-modules, raw materials, and the machinery to manufacture them.
This scheme has received 249 applications totaling investments of Rs 1.15 lakh crore, with anticipated production of Rs 10.34 lakh crore and the creation of 1.42 lakh jobs. This represents the highest-ever investment commitment in India’s electronics sector, reflecting robust industry confidence.
Additionally, Vaishnaw acknowledged advancements in the semiconductor sphere, revealing that ten units have been sanctioned, with three already in pilot or early production stages. He stated, “Fabs and ATMPs from India will soon provide chips to mobile and electronics manufacturers.”
“Electronics manufacturing has created 25 lakh jobs over the last decade. This is true economic growth at the grassroots,” the minister emphasized.
“As we enhance semiconductor and component manufacturing, job creation will expedite. Production is expanding from finished goods to components. Exports are on the rise. Global corporations are confident. Indian firms are competitive. New jobs are being created. This is the ‘Make in India’ success narrative!” he concluded.
