New Delhi, June 2 (NationPress) – On Monday, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal engaged with French Finance Minister Eric Lombard in Paris to assess the status of the India-EU free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations.
In a post shared on the X social media platform, Goyal remarked: “Had a fruitful discussion with @Eric_R_Lombard, French Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty.”
“We exchanged insights on strengthening our economic partnership, boosting trade & investments with an emphasis on technology and innovation across key sectors. We also reviewed the advancements in the India-EU FTA negotiations,” the Union Minister added.
Goyal expressed optimism about the potential for stronger economic ties between India and France.
Earlier that day, Goyal also met with Christophe Perillat, CEO of Valeo Group, a prominent global automotive supplier with a significant presence in India.
“I value the company’s confidence in India’s growth narrative and their intentions to increase investments in the country. We explored opportunities to expand their manufacturing capabilities in India,” the Minister shared.
He further met with Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of the L'Oréal Group, to discuss potential opportunities for L'Oréal to ‘Make in India’ for the global market.
The Commerce Minister also engaged with several leading global CEOs in Paris to investigate their future investment strategies for the Indian market in emerging sectors like electric vehicles and renewable energy.
During his official visit to France aimed at enhancing trade and investments, the Minister will also participate in a World Trade Organisation (WTO) ministerial meeting on Tuesday.
Additionally, the Commerce Minister hinted at a forthcoming free trade agreement (FTA) with Oman, as discussions between the two nations progress.
Following his engagements in France, the Union Minister will head to Italy for the next segment of his official trip.
