India and Hungary have maintained a close, friendly, and multifaceted relationship. The Hungarian people remember with appreciation India's role during the 1956 uprising, when New Delhi's intervention with the Soviet Union helped save the life of Arpad Goncz, who later served as President of Hungary from 1990 to 2000, according to the Indian Embassy in Hungary. India's ancient culture, spiritual traditions, and academic excellence, especially in the "knowledge sector", are highly valued by the Hungarian populace.
