New Delhi, May 10 (NationPress) Shortly after US President Donald Trump proclaimed a "full and immediate ceasefire" between India and Pakistan, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) declared that both nations would cease all military operations on land, air, and sea starting at 5 PM Indian Standard Time on Saturday.
"The Director General of Military Operations of Pakistan reached out to his Indian counterpart at 1535 hrs earlier today. They mutually agreed that all military actions would halt on land, in the air, and at sea from 1700 hrs Indian Standard Time today," Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated during a concise media briefing.
"Instructions have been communicated to both sides to implement this agreement. The Director General of Military Operations will reconvene on the 12th of May at 1200 hours," the Foreign Secretary added.
Earlier, President Trump announced a "full and immediate ceasefire" between the two countries without divulging any details about the negotiations or ceasefire terms.
US Secretary of State Rubio also mentioned in a State Department statement that he and Vice-President J D Vance were involved in the ceasefire negotiations.
“Following extensive discussions mediated by the United States, I am delighted to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social, the social media platform he owns.
“Congratulations to both nations for employing common sense and remarkable intelligence. Thank you for your commitment to this matter!” he added.
Secretary of State Rubio remarked in a separate statement: “In the last 48 hours, Vice President Vance and I have engaged with senior officials from both India and Pakistan, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.
“I am thrilled to announce that the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and will commence discussions on a wide range of issues at a neutral venue. We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in opting for the path of peace,” he concluded.
