New Delhi/Moscow, Oct 29 (NationPress) India and Russia convened the fifth session of the Working Group on Military Cooperation under the Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military Technical Cooperation in New Delhi this Wednesday. The agenda was centered on fortifying the ongoing defence engagements between the two nations while exploring new initiatives within the framework of their established bilateral cooperation.
The event took place at the Manekshaw Centre in the capital, co-chaired by Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, alongside the head of the Russian delegation, Deputy Chief of Main Operations, Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, Lt. General Dylevsky Igor Nikolayevich.
This fifth meeting assessed current defence cooperation strategies and investigated new pathways for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
Both nations reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing India-Russia Defence Cooperation, setting the stage for targeted engagements, improved training exchanges, and fresh initiatives under the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
The Working Group Meeting serves as a platform to advance defence cooperation between India and Russia through regular communication between the Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff, and the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation from Russia's Ministry of Defence.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a telephone discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which they evaluated the progress of their bilateral agenda and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
During this conversation, PM Modi also extended his congratulations to President Putin on his 73rd birthday, wishing him good health and success in all his endeavors. He expressed anticipation for President Putin's visit to India in December for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
PM Modi had previously attended the 22nd India-Russia Summit in Moscow on July 8-9, 2024. Following that summit, a Joint Statement titled “India-Russia: Enduring and Expanding Partnership” was issued.
In September, the two leaders had met at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, where they reaffirmed their support for further strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership and discussed regional and global issues, including the recent developments related to Ukraine.
