Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 26 (NationPress) Kirti Vardhan Singh, the Minister of State for External Affairs, expressed on Thursday that India extends a heartfelt welcome to the newly elected government of Bangladesh. The two nations are deeply interlinked through a rich tapestry of history, culture, and language, which fosters a unique bond between them.
During the National Day Reception organized by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, celebrating the 56th Independence Day of Bangladesh, Singh emphasized the significance of the 1971 Liberation War and the considerable sacrifices made in the fight against oppression, which form a collective heritage for both India and Bangladesh.
"These significant ties of solidarity continue to strengthen our bilateral relationship, which is built on trust, shared values, and a mutual commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in our region. Our partnership is driven by a people-centric approach, focusing on enhancing the daily lives of our citizens. Whether it’s through improving connectivity via rail, road, inland waterways, or energy networks, or by facilitating trade and simplifying the movement of goods and people, our collaboration is designed to yield tangible benefits," he stated.
Singh noted that India and Bangladesh are actively cultivating a strategic, people-oriented partnership that is resilient and forward-thinking.
"Our progress demonstrates an enduring spirit of collaboration, fostered through continuous efforts on both sides. Development partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and cross-border projects have been influenced by shared priorities and a unified vision for inclusive growth," he remarked.
He also highlighted that Bangladesh's Independence Day serves as a significant chapter in their shared history, symbolizing the spirit of self-determination and the remarkable resilience exhibited by the people of both nations.
India is eager to collaborate with Bangladesh to promote mutual advancement and prosperity.
"In this cooperative spirit, India extends a warm welcome to the new government of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first leaders to engage with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, signifying the importance India places on this close and lasting relationship. India was represented at the swearing-in of the new Cabinet of Bangladesh on February 17, 2026, by Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla.
As the presiding officer of the Lok Sabha, embodying India's democratic will and parliamentary traditions, his presence communicated a strong message of India's commitment to democratic values and its willingness to engage constructively with the will of the Bangladeshi people," he added.
