New Delhi, Sep 7 (NationPress) Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary has vehemently criticized the defacement of a plaque featuring the Ashoka Pillar, the national emblem, at the Hazratbal Dargah in Srinagar. He termed this act an attack on the “soul of India” perpetrated by the opposition INDIA bloc.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Choudhary expressed:

“The insult to the esteemed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji's mother in Bihar… The affront to Bihar in Kerala… And now the desecration of the Ashok Chakra in Kashmir! From Kerala to Kashmir, the INDI alliance solely targets the essence of India. The Ashok Chakra is a proud legacy of Emperor Ashok and Bihar. Both Bihar and India shall not accept this affront!”

He characterized the incident as a more profound attack, transcending mere political rivalry, labeling it a strike against national heritage and values.

The J&K Police have initiated a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the defacement of the Ashoka Emblem plaque at the Hazratbal shrine, with investigations currently in progress.

The installation of the national emblem by the Waqf Board during renovations sparked controversy after some individuals raised objections to the depiction of animal figures within the shrine.

In solidarity with Choudhary’s condemnation, BJP leader Sanjay Jaiswal warned:

“They seek rewards but act against the nation. The manner in which India’s national emblem was disrespected will not go unpunished; they will face the consequences.”

Jaiswal’s remarks highlighted the BJP’s demand for prompt legal action and accountability.

Meanwhile, earlier on Saturday, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah questioned the appropriateness of the emblem's installation at the Hazratbal Shrine, asserting that there was no necessity for it and that the mistake should have been acknowledged rather than defended.

Omar Abdullah stated, “The primary question is whether such a plaque should have been installed there in the first place. I have never witnessed this emblem being used in any religious institution or event before. So, why was it necessary to place such a stone? If the work was commendable, people would have recognized it on their own.”

This incident has sparked a vigorous debate at the intersection of national pride and religious sensitivities, igniting widespread public and political reactions.

Point of View

It is crucial to recognize that while political rivalries often surface in heated moments, the integrity of national symbols must be upheld. This incident illustrates the delicate balance between political expression and the preservation of cultural heritage, emphasizing the need for dialogue and understanding in addressing such sensitive issues.
