New Delhi, Nov 4 (NationPress) India has successfully dispatched its inaugural shipment of 12 metric tonnes of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK) from Chhattisgarh to Costa Rica, as reported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), highlights India’s technological advancements in food fortification and its dedication to enhancing global food security and nutrition.
“We are thrilled to announce the export of 12 MT of Fortified Rice Kernel from Chhattisgarh to Costa Rica. In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s mission to combat malnutrition, this global initiative not only bolsters our foreign trade but also supports our nutritional objectives,” stated Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in a message shared on social media platform X.
“This also opens up new markets for our farmers, millers, and exporters, allowing them to achieve better pricing and increased promotion for value-added agricultural exports,” he emphasized.
Chhattisgarh has consistently worked towards promoting the export of rice and fortified rice products, allowing the state’s agricultural stakeholders to gain international recognition.
“The successful shipment of FRK to Costa Rica signifies Chhattisgarh’s expanding role in the global supply chain for nutrition-enhanced food products,” remarked the Ministry.
This development also positions India as a trustworthy supplier of wholesome and premium food products in the global marketplace.
“The export of fortified rice from India not only enriches the nation’s agricultural export profile but also reaffirms its commitment to tackling malnutrition through scientifically validated, globally acknowledged food solutions,” said Abhishek Dev, Chairman of APEDA, while congratulating all exporters and stakeholders involved in this landmark achievement.
FRK is created by mixing rice flour with essential micronutrients such as iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12.
These nutrients are extruded and molded to resemble rice grains, which are then blended with regular rice at a specific ratio to boost the nutritional profile of this staple.
