India and Sweden Enhance Collaborative Efforts in Trade, Defence, and Innovation

New Delhi, April 9 (NationPress) In the eighth round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOCs) held in New Delhi, India and Sweden have reached an agreement to enhance collaboration in various sectors including political engagements, trade and investment, defence and security, innovation, sustainability, and people-to-people connections.
The discussions also encompassed regional and global topics of shared interest. The meeting was co-chaired by Sibi George, Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Dag Hartelius, Sweden's State Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
According to an X post by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, "The 8th round of FOCs took place today in New Delhi, with Secretary (West) Sibi George and State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dag Hartelius reviewing bilateral relations and committing to further strengthen them across various fields."
They emphasized that the recently finalized India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) serves as a new milestone in economic and commercial relations, poised to enhance trade, investment, and technological connections between India and Sweden. The two sides also shared perspectives on regional and global challenges.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had a meeting with Hartelius to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation and fortifying the India-EU strategic partnership.
Jaishankar shared on X, "It was great to meet Dag Hartelius, Sweden's State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, to discuss the advancement of our bilateral cooperation and the deepening of the India-EU Strategic Partnership."
In February, Sweden's Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch visited India to participate in the AI Impact Summit 2026 and met with Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on February 18.
Scindia noted on X, "Meeting H.E. Ms. Ebba Busch, Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden was a pleasure. As partners focused on innovation and sustainability, India and Sweden are set to forge a robust, future-ready digital and telecom partnership."
India and Sweden enjoy a strong relationship grounded in shared values, significant business and investment ties, and collaborative approaches to global challenges, including peace, security, and development.
