New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) India’s textile exports have reached Rs 3 lakh crore, and the objective is to triple this to Rs 9 lakh crore by 2030 by enhancing domestic manufacturing and broadening global outreach, as per the government’s announcement.
As the sixth-largest exporter of textiles worldwide, India contributed 8.21 percent to the nation’s total exports in 2023-24.
The textile sector accounts for a 4.5 percent share in global trade, with the United States and European Union making up 47 percent of India’s textile and apparel exports, according to the Ministry of Textiles.
The recently held ‘Bharat Tex 2025’ in the national capital acted as a catalyst to promote the government’s vision of “Farm to Fibre, Fabric, Fashion, and Foreign Markets”. The event showcased India’s leadership in the textile industry and commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration.
Hosted from February 14-17, the event covered 2.2 million square feet and had over 5,000 exhibitors, presenting a thorough overview of India’s textile ecosystem.
More than 120,000 trade visitors from over 120 countries, including global CEOs, policymakers, and industry leaders, attended the event, according to the ministry.
“From an employment standpoint, the textile sector offers direct jobs to over 45 million people and indirectly supports the livelihoods of over 100 million individuals, which include a significant number of women and rural workers,” stated the government.
The government's commitment to enhancing textile manufacturing, modernizing infrastructure, promoting innovation, and upgrading technology has fortified India’s status as a global textile hub.
India stands as one of the largest producers and exporters of fabrics, catering to both domestic and international markets.
The sector embodies a blend of large-scale industrial manufacturing and small-scale artisanal production, showcasing a vibrant mix of innovation and tradition.
Key fabric hubs in the nation include Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and West Bengal, each recognized for its distinct textile specialties.
