Agartala, Oct 11 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced that the state’s farmers are set to reap significant benefits from the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Dalhan Atmanirbharta Mission, which were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

Following a virtual address from the Prime Minister, where he introduced two ambitious agricultural initiatives with a total investment of Rs 35,440 crore, CM Saha highlighted that approximately 60,000 farmers in Tripura will be directly impacted by the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.

CM Saha confirmed that among the 100 districts selected nationwide for the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, North Tripura district is included.

“When compared to seven other districts in Tripura, North Tripura has lower agricultural output. A total of 36 centrally sponsored schemes from various ministries will be implemented in these 100 districts,” stated the Chief Minister.

He mentioned that recent changes in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) structure, now limited to two tax slabs of 5 percent and 18 percent, will significantly aid farmers by lowering the prices of essential materials.

CM Saha emphasized that Saturday was a landmark day for India’s agriculture sector, as Prime Minister Modi launched projects worth Rs 42,000 crore in honor of the birth anniversaries of two illustrious figures, Bharat Ratna Jayprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh.

The two major projects—the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (with an investment of Rs 24,000 crore) and the Dalhan Aatmanirbharta Mission (with an investment of Rs 11,440 crore)—aim to empower farmers, enhance agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification, and ensure access to both long-term and short-term credit in the designated 100 districts.

Accompanied by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath and other officials, CM Saha remarked that India’s grain production has surged by nearly 40 percent from the previous year, attributing this growth to the Centre’s persistent agricultural reforms and support.

He noted that Prime Minister Modi has urged state governments to further escalate production to position India as a global leader in the production of major crops.

The Chief Minister underscored that these initiatives are designed to initiate a “new era of prosperity and well-being” for millions of farmers nationwide.

CM Saha pointed out that, in contrast to previous administrations, the NDA government prioritizes not only the introduction of new initiatives but also ensures thorough monitoring and complete saturation at the grassroots level.

Under this new scheme, 100 low-productivity districts with inadequate irrigation facilities and limited access to agricultural credit have been pinpointed for thorough agricultural development.

“The average foodgrain yield in Tripura is 3,052 kg per hectare, while North Tripura stands at 2,207 kg per hectare. These new initiatives will aid in narrowing that gap through improved irrigation, credit access, and modern farming techniques,” CM Saha remarked.

The projects, which will unfold over six years from FY 2025–26 to 2030–31, will involve collaboration among 11 departments including Fisheries, Animal Resource Development, Cooperatives, Food Processing, Rural Development, Skill Development, MSME, and Land Resources to execute 36 sub-projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, farm loans, skill training, and market connectivity.

While the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana aims to boost productivity, crop diversification, irrigation, and storage, the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses seeks to elevate farmers’ income and achieve self-sufficiency in pulse production.

During the ceremony, CM Saha honored progressive farmers and representatives of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) who have made notable contributions to Tripura’s agriculture.

“These initiatives are a testament to Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to the agricultural community and will enhance the global competitiveness of Indian agriculture,” concluded CM Saha.
