Agartala, Aug 15 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, declared on Saturday that just like the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, the 'Atmanirbhar Tripura' vision stands as the primary motto of the state government.

During the hoisting of the national flag at the Assam Rifles ground for the 79th Independence Day celebration, Saha emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' movement transcends government programs and has evolved into a nationwide movement.

He revealed that the state government has embraced the 'Vocal for Local' approach, prioritizing the procurement and promotion of locally made products.

“Through our collective efforts, we aim to create an 'Atmanirbhar Tripura' and ensure self-reliance for every citizen. With innovation, India will make its mark in fields like artificial intelligence, space exploration, biotechnology, and renewable energy,” Saha asserted.

He noted that in the fiscal year 2023-24, Tripura's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) experienced a growth of 12.46%, placing it second among the eight northeastern states.

According to the NITI Aayog index, Saha highlighted that Tripura is now recognized as one of the leading states in the nation. He mentioned that the government implemented the 'Agar Wood Policy' in 2021, which has significantly boosted the Agar industry. During the 'Rising North-East Summit' held in May in Delhi, 64 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to invest over Rs 15,642 crore across various sectors.

The Chief Minister remarked that both Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have celebrated the state's impressive development over the past seven years under the current BJP administration.

Saha underscored women's empowerment in Tripura, noting that there are over 55,000 active Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in rural and urban areas, involving around six lakh women earning their livelihoods through various sectors.

The government has allocated more than Rs 779 crore to these SHGs as revolving funds, with additional support from banks. Among the six lakh SHG participants, 1,08,281 women have become 'Lakhpati Didis', showcasing their entrepreneurial success.

He explained that a 'Lakhpati Didi' is an SHG member whose annual household income exceeds Rs 1 lakh, and these women inspire others by adopting sustainable livelihoods and achieving a higher standard of living.

Saha, who also oversees the Education portfolio, mentioned that through the successful implementation of the 'ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) – New India Literacy Programme', Tripura's literacy rate has risen to 95.6%, making it the third most literate state in India, following Mizoram and Goa.

He expressed pride in Tripura being recognized as a fully literate state, which is a significant achievement for its residents.
