New Delhi, July 16 (NationPress) The rising significance of India as a digital hub was emphasized by the Quad partners, government officials, and industry leaders at the Wavelength Forum held in New Delhi on Wednesday. The forum focused on enhancing subsea cable connectivity and resilience throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
Hosted under the US Department of State's 'CABLES' initiative, the forum underscored the vital role of subsea cables in bolstering the global digital economy and the necessity of employing trusted vendors for construction, maintenance, and repairs.
According to a statement from the US Embassy in India, India generates 20 percent of global internet traffic and requires additional subsea cables to connect to its shores. Over 70 participants discussed strategies to enhance India's cable infrastructure, including regulatory reforms, streamlined permitting processes, and improved maintenance and repair capabilities.
The statement also indicated that participants shared insights on safeguarding subsea cable systems against emerging threats, such as cyberattacks and sabotage, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to protect global connectivity.
The event showcased the Quad Partnership for Cable Connectivity and Resilience, reaffirming the commitments made during the July 1 Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Discussions highlighted the urgent need for resilient and secure cable networks to accommodate the increasing demand driven by 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things.
During the forum, US Charge d’Affaires Jorgan Andrews stressed the significance of cooperation between the United States and India in this domain.
The Wavelength Forum serves as a testament to the robust US-India partnership in regional infrastructure, reinforcing the Quad’s collective commitment to safeguarding and expanding trusted partnerships. Together, we aim to enhance secure connectivity while fostering innovation and economic growth across the Indo-Pacific region,” he stated.
As participants reaffirmed their dedication to establishing secure and resilient digital ecosystems through ongoing US-India and Quad partnerships, the forum also celebrated collaborative efforts and progress in advancing shared goals outlined during the 2025 Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
