What is India's Mission Sudarshan Chakra?

New Delhi, Aug 15 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a groundbreaking initiative to create an indigenous air defence system designed to safeguard India’s strategic, civilian, and nationally significant locations against potential enemy assaults.

This initiative will also prioritize the creation of innovative weaponry to retaliate against adversaries.

Experts suggest that India’s forthcoming system could surpass Israel’s famed Iron Dome, a sophisticated multi-layered defence mechanism recognized for its aerial interception capabilities.

Since its deployment in the 2010s, the Iron Dome has successfully intercepted thousands of rocket and missile onslaughts, including those from Hamas in Palestine and Hezbollah in Lebanon, boasting a success rate exceeding 90%.

With Mission Sudarshan Chakra, India is poised to develop a similarly advanced and potentially superior defensive shield.

PM Modi emphasized that this mission will amalgamate cutting-edge surveillance, interception, and counter-strike technologies, facilitating the rapid neutralization of threats in the air, land, and maritime domains.

Importantly, during Operation Sindoor, Indian defence systems effectively countered numerous Pakistani aerial offensives, including suicide drone attacks, leveraging indigenous defence technology.

Currently, India employs the Russian-made S-400 air defence system, known for its effectiveness; however, Sudarshan Chakra promises a more comprehensive protective shield for military installations, civilian zones, national buildings, and other critical areas.

This system will not only neutralize incoming threats but also proactively engage in counter-attacks to inflict damage on adversaries.

According to PM Modi, to ensure the safety of every citizen and tackle future technology-driven security challenges, the national protective shield named Sudarshan Chakra is expected to be fully operational by 2035. Drawing inspiration from Lord Krishna’s legendary Sudarshan Chakra, he stated that the entire research, development, and manufacturing processes will occur within India, with active involvement from the nation’s youth.

“The strength of the Sudarshan Chakra was its precision -- it struck exactly where intended and returned to Lord Krishna. In a similar vein, our Sudarshan Chakra will ensure precise, targeted actions. As warfare evolves, I commit to advancing this mission for the security of our nation and our citizens,” asserted the Prime Minister.

PM Modi praised Operation Sindoor, executed post the Pahalgam attack, as a testament to India’s strategic independence. Employing Made in India weaponry, the operation dismantled terror networks and infrastructure based in Pakistan, signaling a new era of assertiveness where India will no longer tolerate nuclear threats or blackmail.

PM Modi remarked, “Dependence on others raises questions about a nation’s independence. When dependence becomes habitual, it poses a significant risk. Hence, we must remain vigilant and committed to self-reliance.
