New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) The patent landscape in India is undergoing significant transformation, showcasing a robust uptick in domestic innovation and enhanced awareness of intellectual property, as highlighted in a recent report.
According to the Indian Narrative report, startups, MSMEs, and educational institutions benefit from an 80% reduction in patent filing fees, with expedited examination processes available for startups, MSMEs, female applicants, and government entities—groups that have historically been underrepresented in formal IP filings.
The National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission has executed around 9,500 awareness programs nationwide, reaching more than 25 lakh students and faculty members, according to the report.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently stated that out of the total patent filings, 99,721 or approximately 70% were from Indian residents, while foreign filings numbered 44,008.
This year marks the highest annual count of patent filings ever recorded in the country, continuing a multi-year growth trend attributed to policy reforms, reduced fees, and increased intellectual property awareness.
