Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) Vehicle sales in India have experienced a remarkable increase of 25.62 percent year-over-year, reaching 24.09 lakh units in February. This milestone has surpassed the previous record for February 2024, as reported by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) on Thursday.
The growth spans nearly all vehicle categories, with the two-wheeler segment climbing by 25.02 percent, three-wheelers by 24.39 percent, passenger vehicles by 26.12 percent, and commercial vehicles by 28.89 percent. This trend highlights robust demand driven by both personal mobility and economic activities.
FADA anticipates a continuation of this positive sentiment among dealers for March, with 75.51 percent expecting growth, while 19.90 percent predict stability and just 4.59 percent foresee a decline.
Tractor sales also saw an impressive surge, growing by 36.35 percent in February, marking it as the fastest-growing category of the month.
However, the construction equipment segment did not follow this trend, experiencing a slight decrease of 1.22 percent year-on-year.
“The strong performance in February suggests that confidence stemming from policy changes, particularly with GST 2.0, is translating into sustained demand across various vehicle segments,” stated FADA.
The two-wheeler retail sales maintained a robust pace, reaching 1,700,505 units, a 25.02 percent increase attributed to improved liquidity in rural regions due to favorable crop outcomes, appealing marketing strategies, and enhanced affordability following GST reforms.
Commercial vehicle sales stood at 100,820 units, reflecting a strong 28.89 percent year-on-year increase. Dealers across the country noted greater freight availability, consistent e-commerce activities, and infrastructure-related demand fueling fleet expansions.
Passenger vehicle sales amounted to 394,768 units, with an impressive 26.12 percent annual growth. Urban markets grew by 21.12 percent, while rural markets saw a significant rise of 34.21 percent, indicating sustained demand beyond metropolitan areas.
The notable growth in rural regions is particularly promising as it supports the sale of smaller cars, even as SUVs and utility vehicles continue to lead overall sales volumes.
