Bengaluru, Sep 10 (NationPress) The protest against the alleged inequities in the internal reservation allocation by the Congress-led government in Karnataka intensified on Wednesday as demonstrators overturned barricades and staged a protest on the main artery near Freedom Park, leading to significant traffic congestion.
Thousands of protesters dismantled barricades and obstructed the road, demanding that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah or Social Welfare Minister H.C. Mahadevappa come to hear their concerns.
The demonstrators, representing the Bhovi, Banjara, Korama, and Koracha communities, have been advocating for a reservation quota, claiming they lack adequate representation.
The protesters dismissed government officials and sent them away, insisting on a personal appearance from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
They argued with the police, threatening to march to Vidhana Soudha if the Chief Minister did not meet them.
Traffic came to a complete standstill from Anand Rao Circle to K.R. Circle. Commuters returning home, unaware of the situation, were trapped in traffic for hours, even ambulances were caught in the jam, and police had difficulty managing the crowd. As a precaution, authorities readied water jets to disperse the crowd and increased security around Vidhana Soudha.
Previously, BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra visited the scene and showed support for the protesters.
Addressing the crowd, he remarked, "Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is displaying utter neglect in providing justice to marginalized communities. It’s not about how long you have held the Chief Minister position, but the extent to which you provide justice. Injustice must not occur to any of the numerous sub-castes within the Scheduled Caste community."
"Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has committed a grave injustice against the Bhovi, Banjara, Korama, and Koracha sub-castes. These communities will no longer trust the Congress party. Thousands have gathered here, yet the Chief Minister remains unresponsive, illustrating his mindset," Vijayendra stated.
