Isha Gramotsavam, the rural sports initiative founded under Sadhguru's Isha Outreach, will make its Haryana debut on 25 July 2025, bringing cluster-level competitions to Panipat, Karnal, and Ambala before advancing through divisional rounds to a grand finale at the Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore from 4–6 September. The tournament, open exclusively to everyday rural citizens — farmers, daily-wage earners, homemakers, and students — carries a prize pool of more than ₹1 crore.

Tournament Format and Schedule

The competition follows a multi-stage structure. Cluster-level matches in Panipat, Karnal, and Ambala are scheduled for 25–26 July, with Hisar and Kurukshetra hosting their cluster rounds on 1–2 August. The divisional round will be held on 9 August in Karnal, with the qualifying Haryana team progressing to the national grand finale in front of the iconic Adiyogi statue at Coimbatore.

Unlike professional sporting events, participation in Isha Gramotsavam is free of charge and restricted to rural communities, ensuring the tournament remains rooted in grassroots engagement rather than elite competition.

Prize Money Breakdown

At the cluster stage, winning teams receive ₹10,000, runners-up ₹7,000, third place ₹5,000, and fourth place ₹3,000. At the divisional level, prizes rise to ₹15,000 for winners, ₹10,000 for runners-up, ₹6,000 for third, and ₹4,000 for fourth. At the grand finale, winning volleyball and throwball teams each receive ₹5 lakh, with runners-up taking home ₹3 lakh. Third and fourth-placed grand finale teams receive ₹1 lakh and ₹50,000 respectively. Separate prize money has also been earmarked for the Paralympic category.

What Organisers Say

Swami Pulaka, national coordinator of Isha Gramotsavam, said the initiative has historically triggered changes well beyond the playing field. 'Villages have come together in celebration, women have stepped out to participate with wholehearted support from their families, and communities have become stronger through the spirit of sport. We have also seen many participants choosing healthier lifestyles, gradually moving away from unhealthy habits and addictions,' he said.

Pulaka added that Haryana's established sporting legacy made it a natural fit: 'We hope Isha Gramotsavam will further strengthen that culture at the grassroots, bringing villages together, inspiring rural youth and women, and creating an occasion where every community can celebrate, compete and grow together.'

Voices from the Ground

Anuj Jaglan, a 29-year-old dairy farmer from Jondhan Kalan village in Panipat, described how the tournament prompted a behavioural shift in his peer group. 'Within a few days, we noticed a positive change. Instead of spending evenings on mobile phones, we started to come together to practice,' he said. Jaglan noted that rural addictions such as hookah are common, but the tournament offered an alternative: 'If even a few young lives change because of this, it will be a victory beyond the tournament.'

Among the most striking participants is Jalpati, a 66-year-old farmer from Waiser village in Panipat, who has registered for the tournament and is assembling a women's throwball team from her village — a sign, organisers say, that the initiative is drawing participation across generations.

National Reach

Beyond Haryana, Isha Gramotsavam — run under Isha Outreach's Action for Rural Rejuvenation initiative — is being held across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Puducherry. As the Haryana edition gets underway, the national finale in September will bring together the best rural teams from across this footprint for a culminating celebration at Coimbatore.

Point of View

However, will be whether the community momentum outlasts the tournament calendar.
