Mumbai, July 18 (NationPress) The city of Islampur in Sangli district is set to be renamed to Ishwarpur, as announced by Maharashtra's Food and Civil Supply Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Friday.
“Residents of this region have expressed their demand for a name change for quite some time. The government has officially approved the renaming of Islampur to Ishwarpur, and we are forwarding a proposal to the central government,” stated Minister Bhujbal, following the state cabinet's approval the day before.
He added, “The authority to change the name of a village or city lies with the Central Government. In accordance with their guidelines, we are sending the proposal to rename Islampur (located in the Walwa tehsil) as Ishwarpur in Sangli district, along with the State Government's recommendation. Once this proposal receives the green light from the Central Government, Islampur will officially become Ishwarpur.”
In related news, Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse informed the state Assembly about the government's approval to allocate Rs 970.42 crore for the next phase of salary subsidies for private unaided and partially aided schools, as well as for the teachers and non-teaching staff working within these institutions across the state.
According to Minister Bhuse, this initiative will support 49,562 teachers across 6,755 private schools, as well as 9,631 educational units in the state. Additionally, 2,714 teachers and non-teaching staff will benefit from a new 20 percent subsidy, set to be implemented from August 1, 2025. He also mentioned that schools deemed ineligible under the grant criteria will be designated as special schools according to the Self-Financed Act.
Furthermore, Minister of Marketing Jaykumar Rawal announced in the state Assembly the formation of a special investigative team led by the Nagpur District Collector to thoroughly examine alleged irregularities within the Nagpur Agricultural Produce Market Committee. The committee will also consist of the District Superintendent of Police (Nagpur Rural) and the Divisional Joint Registrar of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. They have been tasked with submitting their findings within 30 days.
