Jabalpur, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Jabalpur Railway Division has made a remarkable move towards digitisation by implementing QR codes at the reservation and unreserved ticket counters across all its stations, allowing passengers to pay for their tickets using digital methods.
Following the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Kamal Kumar Talreja and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dr Madhur Verma, the Commercial Department launched this initiative at stations such as Jabalpur, Madan Mahal, Katni, Narsinghpur, Gadarwara, Pipariya, Satna, Maihar, Rewa, Damoh, and Sagar.
This digital payment system aims to alleviate challenges like managing loose change and long lines at ticket counters, facilitating faster transactions and increased convenience for passengers.
Moreover, the division has introduced 113 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at 25 major stations. These machines also accept digital payments, helping to further minimize wait times for passengers.
The initiative has been extended to parcel offices at nine stations, where QR codes are displayed for digital payments.
This move has been positively received by passengers, with many expressing appreciation for the convenience provided. Dr Madhur Verma encouraged passengers to take full advantage of this facility.
In a discussion with IANS, he remarked, "With the introduction of QR codes, the time lost in handling physical tickets and the problems related to payment miscommunication have been resolved. The adoption of digital payments has expedited transactions, resulting in an uptick in ticket bookings. Initiatives like the UTS app and ATVMs have considerably alleviated the congestion at unreserved ticket counters."
Verma also expressed gratitude to the Western Railway for the introduction of the QR code facility and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of officials such as Kamal Kumar Talreja in streamlining reserved ticket payments.
Mahant Vijay Acharya, a passenger from Maharashtra returning from the Kumbh Mela, expressed thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav for implementing this system. He highlighted that this initiative is a step towards fulfilling the objectives of the Digital India Mission.
"QR codes have been set up at all counters, including ticketing and parcel counters, facilitating easy digital payments. This eliminates the necessity of handling change and resolves issues regarding payment discrepancies. The system is user-friendly and accessible, as most individuals now possess smartphones," Mahant Vijay Acharya stated to IANS.
"At present, passengers can also benefit from a 25 percent cashback on their bookings, which further incentivizes the use of digital transactions. This initiative represents a positive advancement towards fostering a cashless economy," he added.
The Jabalpur Railway Division's QR code-based payment system not only simplifies transactions but also promotes the government's vision of a digitally empowered India. Both passengers and officials have praised this initiative for its potential to enhance the overall travel experience.
