Ahmedabad, Nov 26 (NationPress) The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, expressed his pride over the recent announcement that Ahmedabad has been designated as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. He emphasized that this news is a moment of pride for every Indian.

“The success is attributed to the country’s strong sports infrastructure and significant investments in athlete development leading to this successful bid. This announcement is indeed a proud moment for every Indian,” stated the Home Minister.

Previously, Ahmedabad was officially named the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games during the conclusion of the Commonwealth Sports General Assembly held in Glasgow.

The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, referred to it as an “unmatched moment of pride” for the state, asserting that this event will further solidify Gujarat's position as India's sporting capital and enhance the vision of a “Viksit Bharat”.

Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mansukh Mandaviya remarked that the Games will celebrate India’s developmental journey and reaffirm the nation’s commitment to using sports as an instrument for national growth.

He highlighted that the event will further enhance India’s capability to host sustainable and inclusive global sports competitions.

Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghavi, termed the moment as a “historic honor,” assuring that Gujarat is entirely equipped to welcome athletes and delegates with world-class facilities, efficient systems, and India’s renowned hospitality.

He pointed out that the Games will embody Gujarat’s fundamental values of unity, sustainability, and excellence.

“This achievement is rooted in years of vision and consistent effort. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to fortify India’s sports culture, along with relentless efforts by Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, has positioned India on this global sporting platform. Their united leadership has paved the way for Ahmedabad to be chosen for the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games,” he added.

The 2030 Games are particularly significant as the Commonwealth prepares to celebrate 100 years of sporting excellence and collective progress, making India’s hosting of this centenary event a symbol of ambition and unity within the Commonwealth movement.

The announcement has also been met with praise from the global sporting community. PT Usha, the president of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, stated that hosting the centenary edition will enhance ties among Commonwealth nations and lay the groundwork for the next century of sporting collaboration.

Donald Rukare, interim president of Commonwealth Sport, described Ahmedabad’s selection as a “defining moment” for the movement, showcasing India’s scale, energy, and readiness for a future-oriented Games. Ahmedabad's bid was anchored by the theme “New Age Games for a New Century,” based on principles of affordability, accessibility, inclusivity, and long-term legacy.

The core of the event will be the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, one of Asia’s largest multi-sport complexes. This venue will be supported by the Gujarat Police Academy in Karai and the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura, along with integrated transport, modern athlete housing, and advanced digital infrastructure.

The Games are set to establish new standards for sustainability, featuring renewable-energy-powered venues, low-emission transport, and zero-waste management systems. Para-sports will play a vital role in the event, reinforcing India’s commitment to inclusivity.

Hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games aligns closely with national reforms introduced under the National Sports Policy 2025, the National Sports Governance Act 2025, and the amended National Anti-Doping Bill.

These reforms have enhanced transparency, governance, and athlete welfare, allowing India to present a more robust and credible bid. The path to securing the Games was a structured and collaborative effort that commenced in January 2025 with a formal invitation from Commonwealth Sport, involving multiple high-level evaluations, technical presentations, and on-site assessments in Ahmedabad.

The bid was presented by senior officials from the Gujarat government, the Central government, and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, whose coordinated actions impressed the General Assembly.

The centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will honor tradition, celebrate the present, and shape the future of the Commonwealth sporting movement. It signifies not just a sporting event but a transformative chapter for Gujarat and for India’s journey toward “Viksit Bharat 2047”.
