Jammu Registers Season's Record Low Temperature as Kashmir Valley Experiences Severe Cold

Srinagar, Dec 14 (NationPress) As a cold wave enveloped J&K, the difference between maximum and minimum temperatures shrank even more, with Srinagar registering minus 4.6 and Jammu 3.6 as the minimum temperatures on Saturday.
On Saturday, Jammu city recorded 3.6 degrees Celsius as its lowest minimum temperature this season.
The maximum temperatures for Friday were 9.6 in Srinagar and 21.9 in Jammu.
Gulmarg reported minus 7.6 and Pahalgam minus 8.4 as their minimum temperatures on Saturday.
On the same day, minimum temperatures in Jammu city were 3.6, Katra 7.5, Batote 4.6, Banihal 4.9, and Bhaderwah minus 0.6.
The MET department has predicted cold, dry weather until December 20, during which the cold wave is anticipated to strengthen.
The morning chill and frost have hindered pedestrian and vehicular movement on the roads in Srinagar and other towns of the Valley, as residents prefer to stay indoors to avoid the severe cold in the mornings.
In the evenings, shops and other businesses close early as people rush home to be with their families during the long, cold winter nights.
During the winter months, nearly all Kashmiris don the traditional tweed over garment known as the 'Pheran'.
The Kangri, an earthen firepot woven in willow wicker, is filled with ember and kept under the Pheran to provide warmth amid the harsh winter cold.
Despite claims from local authorities, sufficient electricity has not been supplied to the Valley's residents, although revenue collection from consumers has seen a notable increase in recent months.
This situation has led locals to rely more on traditional methods to fend off winter chill and maintain their time-tested attire.
