The notification noted: “Due to the conviction of G. Janardhan Reddy, who represents the Gangawati Constituency, by the Principal Special Judge for CBI cases in Hyderabad under CC.No.1 of 2012, he is disqualified from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly effective from the date of his conviction, which is 6th May 2025.

In the verdict regarding the Obulapuram mining case on May 6, the CBI court in Hyderabad found Gali Janardhan Reddy and three others guilty of illegal mining, inflicting a loss of Rs 884 crore. This case, which dates back to 2009, revealed extensive corruption and land misuse during the YSR government in the former Andhra Pradesh. The court sentenced Reddy to seven years in prison.
In 2024, Janardhana Reddy rejoined the BJP after merging his party, the Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha, with the BJP.
During a press conference, V.S. Ugrappa, Vice President of the Karnataka Congress, remarked, “The seven-year prison sentence handed to Janardhan Reddy by the CBI Special Court delivers a profound message to corrupt politicians nationwide. It exemplifies that those who abuse their power will ultimately encounter justice.”
He further stated, “Janardhan Reddy and his associates illegally exported 29 lakh metric tonnes of iron ore, worth Rs 884 crore, as confirmed by the judge. They have now faced punishment. BJP leaders linked to him, including national leaders, must be held accountable. I previously indicated that over Rs 1 lakh crore in resources were misappropriated.”
Ugrappa called for the state government to seize all assets of those involved, treating this theft as overdue land revenue. He also demanded action against the officials and state leaders who were in power at that time and benefited from this corruption.
