He made these remarks during the 'National Science Day' seminar at the University of Kashmir, where he paid homage to the distinguished scientist Sir C.V. Raman. This year, the theme for National Science Day was ‘Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat’.

The L-G underscored the necessity of promoting advancements in science and technology, fostering knowledge exchange, creativity, and innovation to ensure a sustainable future.

He also called for the establishment of AI labs in all universities in J&K to facilitate cutting-edge research and innovation.

“The AI lab will operate as a distinct entity within the Science & Technology Department, collaborating across disciplines with industry, researchers, educators, and technologists. We cannot envision a future without AI. Its influence will be significant in all facets of our lives, making it essential to empower our youth to gain AI knowledge, reskill, and upskill the workforce to align with AI trends and enhance J&K's competitiveness,” he asserted.

He further indicated that AI labs in universities will directly engage with local industries to integrate new findings and innovations into business practices.

He also requested universities to adopt a flexible stance towards AI and provide short-term courses tailored to the rapid advancements and industry needs.

“In the foreseeable future, AI will be crucial for health and emergency service personnel, industry managers, and leaders from social and business sectors,” he noted.

He stressed that it would be the duty of all university AI labs to organize workshops and weekly training sessions to ensure that the entire workforce in J&K becomes AI literate, enabling leaders from various fields to make informed decisions.

He urged students and faculty to collaborate on a comprehensive five-year plan to harness the potential of new technologies like AI for the development of Jammu and Kashmir.

He emphasized that alongside groundbreaking discoveries, there should be a focus on innovations that address local sector challenges.

“We must also ensure that technologies like AI adhere to ethical standards and are free from any form of bias,” he added.
