Ranchi, May 8 (NationPress) After a span of 10 months, the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has yet to announce the results of the Civil Services Mains Examination conducted in June of last year. This prolonged wait has led to significant frustration among the candidates.
On Thursday, several aspirants initiated an indefinite hunger strike outside the JPSC office located at Old Jail Chowk in Ranchi.
Previously, on Wednesday, they had gathered to protest at the main gate of the commission, holding placards and chanting slogans such as “Result release karo ya hang kar do” (Either release the result or hang us), showcasing their deep distress over the ongoing delay.
The candidates contend that the commission's lack of action has hindered their professional journeys. “If the commission cannot release the result, then we should be declared guilty and sentenced to death,” one protestor expressed.
The recruitment process commenced in January 2024 with the announcement of the 11th to 13th combined Civil Services Examination.
The results for the preliminary exam, which took place in March last year with over 3.5 lakh candidates, were revealed on April 22, 2024.
From this, 7,011 candidates qualified for the Mains, held from June 22 to 24, 2024, aiming to fill 342 positions.
According to the JPSC schedule, the Mains results were initially set for release in August 2024. However, the then-chairperson, Dr. Mary Neelima Kerketta, retired that same month, leaving the position vacant for over six months.
On February 27, 2025, the government appointed L. Khiangte, a retired IAS officer, as the new Chairperson. Candidates had anticipated that this would expedite the process, but even after more than two months, no results have been issued.
Aspirants claim that this delay is also impacting the upcoming recruitment cycle for the 14th Civil Services Examination.
On Wednesday, a group met with the JPSC Chairman, who reportedly assured them that results would be announced shortly. However, without a specific timeline provided, the candidates resorted to the hunger strike on Thursday.
