Ranchi, May 13 (NationPress) Chanting slogans of "Result Jari Karo Ya Hang Do" (Declare results or hang us), a large crowd of students assembled outside the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) office in Ranchi on Tuesday.
They are calling for the release of the long-overdue results for various competitive exams, including the JPSC Civil Services Main Examination, CDPO, and Food Safety Officer exams.
A group of candidates has been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past week outside the JPSC office near Old Jail Chowk.
As their health has become a concern, more students and family members from around the state have joined the protest, showing solidarity.
Satyanarayan Shukla, President of the Jharkhand State Students Union and one of the hunger strikers, mentioned that the JPSC Civil Services Main Examination took place 10 months ago.
“The former Chairman of the Commission had promised that results would be announced in August 2024. However, they remain unannounced for reasons that are yet to be disclosed,” he stated.
He further added that this uncertainty has left thousands of candidates in a state of confusion. “We have appealed to everyone—from the Chief Minister to the Governor—but no one is providing clarity on when the results will be out. If the Commission cannot deliver the results, they might as well hang us,” he remarked.
When asked by the media, Chief Minister Hemant Soren reiterated on Monday that the JPSC is an autonomous body and that the state government cannot directly interfere in its operations. He expressed optimism that the commission would soon announce the results.
The advertisement for the 11th to 13th Civil Services Exam was published in January 2024, with the preliminary exam conducted in March and results declared on April 22, 2024. Based on these results, 7,011 candidates were shortlisted for the main exam, which took place from June 22 to 24 in 2024, to fill 342 positions.
According to the JPSC calendar, the results were initially set to be released in August of the previous year. However, the then JPSC Chairperson, Dr. Mary Neelima Kerketta, retired during that month, leaving the position vacant for over six months.
It was only on February 27, 2025, that retired IAS officer L. Khiangte was appointed as the new Chairman.
Despite this appointment, over two months have elapsed with no progress on the results. This delay is also obstructing the announcement for the 14th Civil Services Examination, further aggravating the frustrations of the candidates.
