Srinagar, Nov 8 (NationPress) The J&K Police reported on Saturday that they have detained suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) during a significant operation in the Sopore Tehsil of Baramulla district, with numerous individuals being booked under preventive detention laws.
The Sopore police initiated a comprehensive crackdown on OGWs and their terror connections, ramping up preventive protocols to dismantle the terror ecosystem, according to a senior police official.
He further asserted that a considerable number of suspected OGWs and their sympathizers have been detained for interrogation across various regions of Sopore.
“These individuals are being rigorously questioned to uncover their connections, financial networks, and communication channels with operatives based in Pakistan,” he added.
The official stated that this operation is part of the police’s ongoing strategy to dismantle the terror ecosystem, which supplies funding, logistics, and local support to active terrorists and cross-border handlers.
“Several suspects have been booked and placed in sub-jail under preventive detention laws, while additional security measures have been initiated against others to avert their involvement in anti-national activities,” he mentioned.
The official noted that searches are ongoing at various suspected sites throughout Baramulla district, as teams aim to identify and disrupt local support networks for terror organizations.
He also highlighted that the police have enhanced technical and human surveillance to monitor potential sleeper cells, sympathizers, and online propagandists trying to radicalize the youth or disseminate extremist content in the region.
“This ongoing operation is preventive and aims to shield the youth from extremist influences,” he stated.
The official further stressed that the operation will persist in the coming days with targeted scrutiny of terror associates and handlers’ networks, ensuring that peace and normalcy are upheld against elements acting under foreign directives.
“The district-wide joint operations are being executed in close collaboration with the Indian Army and CAPF units, ensuring seamless cooperation among all security forces in combating terrorism and its support structures,” he concluded.
