Srinagar, Nov 12 (NationPress) J&K Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha, emphasized on Wednesday that the new destiny, new identity, and new dreams of Jammu and Kashmir must be safeguarded without compromise.
“For over three decades, terrorism has been the most significant adversary for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, derailing their aspirations and ambitions. Jammu and Kashmir has forged its new destiny, established a new identity, and crafted new dreams. This must be preserved at all costs, and those who attempt to disrupt our youth's dreams must face stringent consequences,” stated L-G Manoj Sinha during his address at the concluding session of the Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) foundation day celebrations.
The L-G asserted that the central government has implemented extensive infrastructure developments over the past five years, urging young professionals to concentrate on innovative strategies to transform J&K’s future.
“Our investments in human capital, R&D, Incubation Centres, and university infrastructure are pivotal for driving J&K's economic advancement,” he added.
He noted that academic programs have expanded from 41 to 90 between 2021 and 2025, introducing interdisciplinary and cutting-edge offerings such as AI, Robotics, Design Your Own Degree, Space Technology, Data Sciences, and Apprenticeship-based UG-level Skills.
“Applications across various disciplines surged from 3,000 in 2021 to 7,600 in 2025, showcasing increased diversity from J&K and beyond,” he mentioned.
Furthermore, he highlighted that prior to 2021, IUST's external research funding was a mere Rs. 2 crore annually, but in four years, over Rs. 69 crore has been secured for research endeavors.
“The university has been granted at least 32 patents, with 77 published and 33 more filed; additionally, two faculty members have been recognized among the top Indian scientists in their respective fields. This is a point of pride for IUST,” he stated.
He also noted that from having no start-ups in 2021, the university has now incubated 93 start-ups over the past four years, hosted more than 225 incubatees, and fostered award-winning innovations in renewable energy, healthcare, and IT.
He officially opened the IUST Innovation Campus and a new Administration Block at the main campus in Awantipora, directing the university to pursue research innovations aimed at developing low-cost, energy-resilient housing.
