New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) Union Minister Giriraj Singh expressed his strong disapproval on Tuesday regarding the controversial slogans directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah within the premises of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi. He stated that JNU has transformed into a center for the so-called 'tukde-tukde gang', which includes Rahul Gandhi, the Trinamool Congress, Left parties, and various opposition groups.
In an interview with IANS, Singh asserted, "It (JNU) has become a base for this faction, and the nation will not endure it for long. If judicial rulings are disregarded, it poses a grave concern. Those who advocate for India's division and align with ideologies resembling those of Pakistan cannot be accommodated in this nation. This is the administration of Modi and Amit Shah. Just as we are eradicating extremists and Naxalites, we will also dismantle the 'tukde-tukde gang."
Other political figures shared similar views on the matter.
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa remarked, "If protests arise over every topic, what will remain? These individuals show no respect for the country, the Constitution, or the law. They are separatists, merely voicing sentiments that fracture our nation. Their disrespect towards the Prime Minister and Home Minister is utterly disgraceful."
JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad also stressed the importance of upholding legal authority, stating, "The Supreme Court has delivered its verdict. Anarchy cannot be tolerated in this country. Court rulings are obligatory for all parties, and such actions are certainly unacceptable under any circumstances."
The slogans were allegedly chanted at JNU's Sabarmati Hostel on Monday, following the Supreme Court's denial of bail to student activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, who have been incarcerated for over five years in connection with a larger conspiracy case related to the 2020 Delhi riots.
Danish, the joint secretary of the Left-backed JNU Students' Union (JNUSU), and Sunil, its secretary, were present during the slogans.
A Delhi Police representative confirmed that they are aware of the incident, but no official complaint has been lodged as of yet. The police are gathering details and have stated that an investigation is underway.
This incident arises amid increased scrutiny concerning student activism and political expressions at JNU, a university known for its protests and political discourse.
