Kanpur youth thanks PM Modi for reply on convoy security letter
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ashutosh Yadav, a resident of Kanpur, has expressed gratitude after receiving a personal response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a letter he had written urging the PM not to compromise on his security following a convoy downsizing during a period of global instability. Yadav, speaking to reporters on 24 June, said the exchange reaffirmed his faith in India's democratic framework.
Background: The Letter and the Concern
Yadav had originally written to Prime Minister Modi after the latter appealed for fuel conservation and accordingly reduced the size of his official convoy. Concerned for the PM's safety, Yadav urged that security arrangements not be scaled back. 'When PM Modi had appealed for fuel conservation and had accordingly reduced the size of the convoy, I had appealed to ensure his security since he is the Prime Minister of the country,' Yadav said.
The response from the Prime Minister's office prompted Yadav to speak publicly about the exchange, calling himself 'fortunate and proud that in a democratic setup, a common citizen can convey his voice to the Prime Minister and it is also heard.'
Nation First: Yadav's Core Message
Yadav underscored that citizens must be willing to make personal sacrifices in the national interest. 'Today, our goal is to make our economy the most developed. With the idea of Nation First we need to make sacrifices, even if we have to remain hungry for fulfilling this goal,' he said. He added that this same spirit had informed his original letter — that even carpooling or using public transport would be preferable to compromising on the Prime Minister's security.
He also highlighted what he described as landmark achievements under the current government, specifically citing the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and large-scale infrastructural development across highways and railways.
Viksit Bharat 2047 and the Role of Youth
Yadav said PM Modi's letter had emphasised the centrality of youth in realising the 'Viksit Bharat' vision by 2047. 'PM Modi has expressed optimism that the aim to transform India into Viksit Bharat by 2047 rests on the shoulders of the youth. He has mentioned in the letter that it is the feeling of unity which serves as the foundation stone for fulfilling any scheme or vision,' Yadav said.
He also praised the Prime Minister's leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic, saying the confidence instilled during those difficult times continues to resonate with millions of Indians.
What This Reflects
The exchange is notable as an instance of citizen-to-PM correspondence receiving a direct response — a dynamic that Yadav says reinforces public trust in democratic participation. He expressed confidence that, despite ongoing global challenges, India would emerge stronger and successfully achieve its 2047 development targets under current leadership.
