Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka), March 28 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have filed an FIR against leaders of the Bajrang Dal for threatening a man who endorsed an inter-religious marriage in the Chikkamagaluru district, as reported by officials on Friday.
The Basavanahalli police have charged Bajrang Dal district leaders Shyam and Sagar under sections 353(1)(C) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This action was prompted by a complaint lodged by Mahesh, the proprietor of a Gobi chat shop.
According to the police report, Mahesh operated a Gobi center in the city of Chikkamagaluru. One of his employees, a member of the Muslim community, was involved in a relationship with a Hindu girl. Upon discovering their relationship, Mahesh facilitated their marriage at the Sub-Registrar’s office in Chikkamagaluru city four days prior.
He also acted as a witness for their marriage.
Following the revelation, Hindu organizations expressed their discontent, accusing him of endorsing “love jihad”. Allegedly, the Bajrang Dal leaders initiated a social media campaign against Mahesh, branding him a traitor to Hindus.
They claimed he was promoting “love jihad” by supporting marriages between Hindu women and Muslim men. The leaders also urged the community to reject individuals they believe act against the interests of the Hindu community.
Recently, a case involving a Muslim youth and a Hindu girl submitting fraudulent address documentation at the Sub Registrar’s office in Mysuru raised alarms. The submission of these fake documents led Hindu organizations to question the affidavit with authorities.
On August 27, 2024, the police in Udupi, Karnataka, arrested a BJP worker linked to an alleged ‘love jihad’ case. The BJP had campaigned vigorously regarding the abduction and rape case, criticizing the Karnataka government for an alleged ‘love jihad’ angle.
An individual connected to a love jihad case was shot in the leg during a police encounter and subsequently apprehended in Dharwad city, Karnataka, on May 4, 2024. The suspect, identified as Saddam Hussain Limbuwale, a 19-year-old from Eshwarnagar in Hubballi city, had been evading capture after a case was filed against him for the alleged rape of a 17-year-old minor girl in Navanagar police station.
