Bengaluru, April 19 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has raised concerns over the closure report absolving the Congress MLA linked to the suicide of Dalit Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Parashuram, directing criticism towards Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Saturday.
Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, remarked on the situation, questioning Home Minister Parameshwara, “When individuals from your own community are suffering due to the government’s injustice, doesn’t it awaken your conscience?”
Home Minister Parameshwara, a member of the Dalit community, faced scrutiny from Ashoka, who stated, “In the case of PSI Parashuram's suicide in Yadgir, Congress MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur, previously accused, has been cleared through a CID B-report -- this further illustrates that the anti-Dalit Siddaramaiah government fails to defend or support Dalits.”
“In the Valmiki Nigam scandal, a Dalit officer, Chandrashekaran, was unjustly sacrificed, and the investigation was conveniently relegated to a nominal SIT probe to bury it. Now, in PSI Parashuram's case, who fell victim to the transfer mafia within the Home Department, this anti-Dalit Congress-led Karnataka government appears to be covering it up again,” Ashoka accused.
Addressing Home Minister Parameshwara, Ashoka reiterated, “When members of your community are suffering from the government's injustice, doesn’t it concern you? Have you lost your humanity? The community is looking to see if you will stand against this corrupt Chief Minister and support Dalits.”
“It’s time for you to respond,” he demanded.
The CID's investigation concluded with a closure report granting a clean chit to the Congress MLA involved. The family and wife of PSI Parashuram have expressed their indignation regarding this outcome. His wife, Shwetha, asserted that officials are asserting their case was fabricated. “My PSI husband frequently mentioned feeling pressured by the Congress MLA,” she revealed.
The suspicious passing of 35-year-old PSI Parashuram at his Yadgir residence ignited major controversy in September 2024, as his family accused a local Congress MLA and his son of causing him mental distress.
The family claimed that Parashuram had given Rs 30 lakh for a position at the Yadgir city police station to the MLA.
However, before completing a year, Parashuram was reassigned to the cybercrime police station.
The MLA allegedly demanded an additional Rs 30 lakh from the SI to permit him to remain in his position at the Yadgir city police station.
The late officer’s wife, Shwetha, has filed a police complaint against MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur and his son Pampanna Gouda, holding them accountable for her husband’s death.
The Congress government in Karnataka has announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and a government job for the family of Police Sub-Inspector Parashuram. The government dismissed the option of transferring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Karnataka BJP has requested the Governor’s intervention regarding the case. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi T Narayanaswamy, has written to the Governor urging him to acknowledge the death of Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Parashuram, who was a Dalit.
The Union Home Ministry has instructed the Karnataka government to provide a report via the Chief Secretary, regarding the suspicious death of the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) from the scheduled caste community.
This action was initiated after Union Minister of State for Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises and Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, sent a letter to the Union Home Ministry, alleging that the investigation into the PSI's death was not being conducted impartially.
