New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) In his 129th radio broadcast 'Mann Ki Baat', Prime Minister Narendra Modi elaborated on the significance of safeguarding India's linguistic and cultural heritage while commending the initiatives aimed at advancing the Kannada language.
PM Modi remarked that the dedication to cultural roots extends beyond India's borders, with Indians overseas also contributing significantly to heritage preservation.
He highlighted the efforts of Kannada-speaking families in Dubai, who pondered, "As our children excel in technology, are they drifting away from their language?" This concern led to the inception of 'Kannada Pathshale', a program teaching children to read, write, and converse in Kannada. Currently, over a thousand children are part of this initiative. Indeed, Kannada Nadu, Nudi Namma Hemme (translated as -- The land and language of Kannada are our pride).
The Prime Minister's commendation for Kannada and its speakers has left the state’s residents ecstatic, viewing it as a boost to morale.
Professor Siddarampappa Mahashimade from Bidar and former President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat stated, "Prime Minister Modi's address highlighted the richness and heritage of the Kannada language, which is a source of immense pride for all Kannadigas. His focus on enhancing the global recognition of a regional language like Kannada demonstrates his respect for India's linguistic and cultural diversity."
"With its designation as a Classical Language in 2008 and a literary history spanning over 2,000 years, Kannada has been shaped by notable poets, saints, and scholars, earning the most Jnanpith Awards. His habit of beginning speeches in Kannada during visits to Karnataka shows his dedication to promoting the language," the retired Kannada professor at Bomaradi College added.
M.G. Deshpande, a resident of Bidar in Karnataka, expressed, "Listening to Prime Minister Modi speak about the Kannada language in Dubai filled me with pride and joy."
"With a rich history of nearly 2,000 years and eight Jnanpith Awards, Kannada stands among the world's finest languages. When the Prime Minister highlights Kannada on a global stage, it instills great pride and confidence in all Kannadigas," he continued.
"Prime Minister Modi's acknowledgment of Karnataka has brought delight to the people of the state," added Vidyananda, a research scholar at Karnataka University.
He also informed IANS, "There was a perception that regional languages were not prioritized in the Central government's administrative framework, raising concerns about whether Kannada would receive its due recognition. However, the Prime Minister has alleviated these worries."
Saadhvi Amma remarked on PM Modi's commendation of the Kannada language, stating, "It is indeed an honor that our Kannada language was mentioned by the Prime Minister."
