New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting the Tamil language both in India and internationally. He emphasized the pride children across various regions take in learning this ancient language.
During his monthly radio show 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Modi shared a touching story from thousands of kilometers away in Fiji, where significant efforts are being made to spread Indian culture and language. He noted that initiatives are underway to connect the younger generation in Fiji with the Tamil language.
He highlighted that Tamil Day was celebrated for the first time in a Raki-Raki school in Fiji this past November. This event provided children with an opportunity to take pride in their linguistic roots, with children reciting Tamil poems and delivering speeches on stage.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that similar endeavors are happening within India. He noted, "Continuous efforts are being made within the country to enhance the Tamil language. Recently, the fourth 'Kashi Tamil Sangamam' took place in my parliamentary constituency of Kashi," he remarked.
During the broadcast, PM Modi shared an audio clip featuring children fluently speaking Tamil, noting that these children hail from Kashi, Varanasi. He shared that although their mother tongue is Hindi, their passion for the Tamil language motivated them to learn it.
He elaborated that this year’s Kashi Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi emphasized the importance of learning Tamil. "Under the theme 'Learn Tamil - Tamil Karakalam', special campaigns were conducted in over 50 schools in Varanasi, and the results can be heard in this audio clip," he added.
The fourth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, which fosters cultural and educational exchange between Tamil Nadu and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, commenced on December 2 and concluded on December 15.
Initiated in 2022, this initiative seeks to revive and strengthen the ancient civilizational, linguistic, and spiritual connections between Tamil Nadu and Kashi.
Stressing the significance of the language, the Prime Minister remarked, "Tamil is the world’s oldest language, boasting an incredibly rich literature. I had encouraged you to participate in the 'Kashi Tamil Sangamam' through 'Mann Ki Baat'. I am delighted that there’s a renewed interest in the Tamil language among children and youth across the nation — this reflects the power of our language and the unity of India.”
