Bengaluru, Sep 26 (NationPress) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed district officials to finalize the socio-economic and academic survey, also referred to as the caste census, by October 7, making it clear that there will be no extension of this deadline. This directive was issued during a high-level video conference review meeting conducted in Bengaluru.
Focusing specifically on Bengaluru city, where the survey commenced on Friday, the Chief Minister urged officials to ensure that enumeration begins without delay within the BBMP limits, which encompass almost 50 lakh households.
He noted that initial technical challenges had been addressed and instructed officials to accelerate the work pace immediately.
"You must achieve a daily progress rate of at least 10 percent to meet our target," he emphasized, underlining the goal of surveying all 1.43 crore families in the state.
As of now, only 2.76 lakh families have been surveyed, indicating a significant push is needed. The total number of households to be surveyed across the state is 1.43 crore (1,43,81,702), with 2,76,016 already completed.
He asserted, "Every family in the state must be surveyed. We must ensure that no household is overlooked."
Regarding the role of teachers serving as enumerators, the Chief Minister highlighted, "More than 1.2 lakh teachers have been tasked with this responsibility, and they must execute it diligently."
A total of 1,20,728 enumerators have been mobilized for the survey, and 1,22,085 enumeration blocks have been established. The enumeration process is mandated to be completed by October 7, according to CM Siddaramaiah.
He cautioned that legal actions would be pursued against any negligence, while also assuring that honorarium payments had already been disbursed to them.
To promote comprehensive coverage, the Chief Minister proposed various strategies.
He mentioned that in hilly regions, survey centers would be set up in schools for the convenience of residents, and the utilization of online facilities should be encouraged.
Enumerators were also instructed to revisit homes that were locked during the initial survey.
This initiative is not solely a project of the Department of Backward Classes Welfare. Deputy Commissioners and CEOs of Zilla Panchayats are required to monitor the progress towards the objectives daily. The Revenue Department, Panchayat Raj Department, and Urban Local Bodies must collaborate effectively, he concluded.
The caste census survey started on Monday statewide. However, due to technical issues, it began later in Bengaluru, on Friday.
The Karnataka High Court declined to issue a stay on the caste census on Thursday, instructing the government to ensure that privacy rights are protected and that individuals are not compelled to disclose their information.
