Bengaluru, Nov 28 (NationPress) The ongoing disputes and blatant confrontations within the Karnataka Congress party regarding the Chief Minister’s position have sparked strong condemnation from the seasoned politician and former Union Minister Veerappa Moily.

In a conversation with IANS, Moily criticized the Karnataka Congress for the intense struggle over the CM position, which has resulted in national humiliation. He also reprimanded the Congress leadership for their delayed response, allowing the situation to deteriorate further.

The senior leader expressed serious concern over the rivalry and theatrics exhibited by the factions led by CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy DK Shivakumar, lamenting the party's descent into an “anarchic” state.

“It has turned into a free-for-all, akin to anarchy. Each community is taking its own stance. Some groups even declare they will not support Congress,” he remarked, urging the Congress leadership to enforce discipline and silence from its leaders.

Moily further emphasized that the Congress party is already vulnerable in various states, and accountability must be established for the “manufactured crisis” here; otherwise, the party risks losing power.

Having served as Chief Minister in Karnataka, Moily called on the Congress high command to reorganize its internal structure to avoid being overshadowed by the BJP’s aggressive tactics.

“Caste politics is a significant threat to the party. Congress champions secularism, yet this very principle is being undermined. Leaders must be restrained from campaigning through personal channels. First, discipline must be reinstated, then discussions about the CM’s continuation or the potential for a new leader can occur,” he stated.

Moily’s remarks are particularly relevant as Congress navigates the delicate balance between the factions loyal to Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, striving to avert a split amid their well-publicized disagreements.

When asked about a “third option” to resolve the conflict, Moily clarified that he does not endorse any faction but insisted that lobbying through individual support bases and communities must cease, and order should be restored.

“I won't comment on who should remain as CM or if a new one should be appointed. Discipline within the party must be prioritized first, then other matters can be deliberated,” he concluded during his special interview with IANS.

Point of View

The Congress party finds itself at a crossroads. The internal conflicts, highlighted by Moily's observations, underscore the urgency for cohesive leadership and strategic discipline. The outcome of this power tussle could significantly impact not only the Congress’s standing in Karnataka but also its broader national strategy against rival parties.
