Bengaluru, Nov 4 (NationPress) H.Y. Meti, a Karnataka Congress MLA representing Bagalkot and former minister, passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Bengaluru. Recently admitted due to a serious illness, he succumbed to multiple organ failure.
The 79-year-old leader, who was elected as an MLA five times, is survived by four children.
According to family sources, the final rites are scheduled for Wednesday in Thimmapur, located in Bagalkot district.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his sorrow, stating, "The news of the passing of former minister and senior leader from North Karnataka, H.Y. Meti, is profoundly saddening. Just last Thursday, I visited him in the hospital to check on his health. I had hoped for his recovery and return to us, but unfortunately, my hopes and prayers have not been answered."
"Meti was a respected leader with a long public career, always prioritizing the well-being of the people and the development of his constituency. His passing is a tremendous loss for society. I pray that the departed soul finds peace and that his family and supporters have the strength to endure this loss," CM Siddaramaiah added.
Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar expressed his condolences on X, stating, "I am deeply saddened by the passing of senior Congress leader and former minister H.Y. Meti from Bagalkote. His death is a significant loss for the party. May his soul rest in peace, and may God grant his family the strength to cope with this tragedy."
Shivakumar informed reporters that the release of the book 'Neerina Hejje', which was scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed due to the passing of H.Y. Meti.
He remarked, "H.Y. Meti's health had worsened recently. The news of his demise is heartbreaking. The Chief Minister reached out to discuss the Bagalkot visit, and after further consultation, a new date for the book release will be determined."
