Belagavi (Karnataka), June 23 (NationPress) In a bold critique of his own political party, senior Congress MLA Raju Kage stated on Monday that even though funds for development initiatives in his constituency were allocated, no work orders have been processed, prompting him to ponder a resignation from the party.
“I might step down from the party,” he declared, igniting controversy.
With the party already under scrutiny due to Congress MLA B.R. Patil’s allegations of housing allotments being influenced by bribery, Kage’s comments could exacerbate the situation for the Congress-led government.
Kage, who represents the Kagawada Assembly constituency in Belagavi district, expressed his frustrations to reporters in Ainapura village, saying, “Despite the release of special grants, including a significant allocation of Rs 25 crore for developmental projects two years ago, not even one work order has been approved.”
“There is a complete breakdown of governance under this Congress administration, as no officials seem to be performing their duties,” Kage asserted.
“What does it signify when work orders remain unissued despite the availability of funds? It wouldn’t be surprising if I submit my resignation in the coming days after meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah,” he added.
“My predicament is even worse than that of B.R. Patil, who has also voiced concerns about the housing project scandal. I am now contemplating resigning from my position as MLA,” he noted.
“It deeply saddens me that no work orders have been issued for essential development projects. B.R. Patil's claims are not unfounded; they reflect the reality,” Kage remarked.
Earlier, MLA B.R. Patil accused officials of selecting beneficiaries for housing schemes through illicit means and claimed he was excluded from the allotment process.
In response to these developments, former Chief Minister and BJP MP Jagadish Shettar commented on Monday that corruption under the Congress regime has reached alarming heights. “The remarks from Congress MLAs Raju Kage and B.R. Patil serve as evidence of this corruption,” he stated.
“The Congress government is misleading the public. They announce funds and programs, yet fail to issue work orders. Raju Kage, who previously served with the BJP, is aware of how former BJP administrations operated,” Shettar added.
Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai also criticized the Congress government during a speech in Haveri, asserting, “There is a complete lack of development. Corruption is rampant in official transfers at all levels. The morale of honest officials has plummeted.”
“As ruling party MLAs disclose scams, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appears indifferent. I am baffled; even cabinet ministers are writing letters. There is evident discord between ministers and MLAs, showing that their concerns are disregarded,” Bommai commented.
“Victims of heavy rains have received no compensation for their losses. Public discontent is likely to lead to protests. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has already instructed state BJP leaders to prepare for an appropriate agitation after discussions. A meeting regarding this matter will be convened soon,” he said.
“Contractors have reported that commission rates under the Congress government have surged to 60 percent. Even excise contractors have expressed their grievances over corruption. The smart meter scandal has also emerged. Yet, this unrepentant government remains unperturbed,” Bommai concluded.
