Bengaluru, May 31 (NationPress) In response to the growing concerns surrounding COVID-19 and a rise in active cases within the state, the Karnataka government released a circular and public advisory on Saturday, detailing essential guidelines for both schools and the general public.
The released circular emphasizes that these guidelines aim to safeguard the health of school children and the general populace.
The advisory regarding schools states, “These directives were developed based on recommendations made during a COVID-19 review meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on May 26, as schools are set to reopen statewide in June.”
Key directives include that children exhibiting symptoms such as fever, cough, or cold should not attend school and must seek appropriate medical treatment. They should only return to school once they have fully recovered from all symptoms. If a symptomatic child arrives at school, parents must be notified immediately, and the child should be sent home.
Likewise, if teachers or school staff show symptoms like fever, cough, or cold, they are encouraged to take necessary precautions. The circular strongly highlights the importance of maintaining hygiene, practicing cough etiquette, and adhering to COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour (CAB).
This circular was disseminated by K.B. Shivakumar, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Services, to all district Deputy Commissioners and the Chief Health Officer of the Bengaluru civic body.
In a public advisory addressing COVID-19 surveillance and safety, the health department stated, “Given the rise in COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, the state remains vigilant in monitoring and managing the situation through ongoing efforts aimed at preventing transmission, identifying cases, and providing care. The Department of Health and Family Welfare encourages all citizens to stay calm yet vigilant and actively participate in public health measures. Continuous cooperation is vital for detecting and containing new variants or outbreaks. Your health remains our utmost priority.”
The public is urged to remain alert but not anxious, avoid sharing unverified information, and report international travelers to authorities for necessary follow-up. Individuals are encouraged to wear masks in crowded settings, maintain physical distancing, and uphold good hygiene practices.
Citizens are also prompted to report symptoms promptly, assist in testing and surveillance, and notify unusual spikes in COVID-19-like symptoms through the IHIP portal's community monitoring tool.
The public is advised to ensure shared spaces are kept clean. A toll-free helpline number has been provided for health inquiries and emergency patient transport.
The advisory concluded with a strong message, “Together, we can swiftly identify and control potential illnesses, ensuring the safety of ourselves and our communities.”
As of May 30, Karnataka reported 234 active COVID-19 cases, with a positivity rate of 24.7% and a case fatality rate of 0.8%. Among the active cases, 223 patients are in home isolation, while 11 are hospitalized.
