Karnataka Minister Questions ED's Actions in MUDA Case

Belagavi, Dec 9 (NationPress) Karnataka Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh reacted with anger to the letter from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) directed to the Lokayukta regarding the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case, stating on Monday, should ‘we hang ourselves’.
“Following the allegations concerning the MUDA case made during the previous session, we established a committee led by retired Justice P.N. Desai to investigate the situation. The court is also looking into the matter. What more can we do? Should we hang ourselves?” the minister remarked to reporters.
He continued, “What is the purpose of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sending a letter to the Lokayukta about the MUDA case? If the ED is sending letters, why is there a need for a court trial? The ED is not the judiciary. Their opinion will be reviewed by the court.”
The minister mentioned that the case is scheduled to be heard in court on Tuesday (December 10), with the Double Division Bench led by Chief Justice N.V. Anjaria addressing the matter.
“A decision will be made after weighing all aspects. The judicial system remains robust in this country,” he asserted.
He accused BJP and JD-S leaders of claiming that farmers are facing problems and that there is a crisis in the northern Karnataka region.
“They also assert that no development projects are being executed. Instead of focusing on government matters, they are engaging in trivial politics. These actions, driven by political motives, should cease, and discussions should center around development and addressing state interests,” he stated.
He added that the opposition should constructively advise the government, reaffirming that the government is open to any debate.
“If the opposition raises constructive concerns and guides the government towards initiatives, we will embrace it,” he emphasized.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) letter to the Lokayukta a day prior to the Karnataka High Court hearing was meant to sway the judiciary.
Siddaramaiah is the primary accused in the MUDA case, with his wife Parvathi named as the second accused. Minister Suresh faces accusations of hastily flying to Mysuru via helicopter to remove all vital documents related to the MUDA case concerning alleged illegal site allocations to Siddaramaiah’s family and subsequently destroying them.
The High Court has instructed the Lokayukta to present an investigation report by December 24.
