Bengaluru, April 4 (NationPress) Karnataka BJP MLA Shivaraj Patil has raised serious allegations, claiming that his phone is being tapped and his location is being monitored through the Police Department, allegedly at the instigation of his political opponents.
In response to these accusations, Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that appropriate measures would be implemented against individuals involved in any unlawful surveillance activities.
This situation came to light after a video recording of a conversation between MLA Patil and Raichur SP M. Puttamadaiah circulated widely on social media.
In the video, MLA Patil expresses that he is aware of his phone being tapped at least 70 times and confirms that his movements are being tracked.
"They approach the police and have my phone tapped, breaking all regulations. This is the state of affairs here. If I am facing this, think about the plight of ordinary citizens," MLA Patil remarked in the footage.
Sources indicated that the video was filmed during a dialogue between MLA Patil and SP Puttamadaiah following a protest that took place on April 1 in Raichur. The protest was held to denounce the death of an individual allegedly killed due to police brutality.
In addressing the allegations, Parameshwara mentioned he would collect information from the District Superintendent of Police, the Zonal IGP, and the DGP.
"I will confer with the SP and the IGP. If such an incident has occurred, we will investigate the circumstances and who granted permission. Based on our findings, suitable actions will be taken," he affirmed.
Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka also commented on the matter, referencing recent allegations of a honeytrap involving Minister for Cooperation K.N. Rajanna. He accused the Congress government of conducting surveillance and phone tapping against lawmakers, including those from the opposition.
"This government is entirely involved in phone tapping. Previously, we and Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy raised concerns regarding this issue. Now, even MLAs from the ruling party are making similar claims. What further evidence is needed? To eliminate political rivals, both ruling and opposition party leaders are being monitored," Ashoka asserted.
