Bengaluru, Feb 18 (NationPress) The Karnataka Cybercrime police have successfully dismantled a racket involving the leak of law exam question papers, resulting in the arrest of a three-member syndicate, which includes the Vice Principal of a law college. The individuals apprehended have admitted to their involvement in this illicit activity for financial rewards.

The examinations were being held in law colleges that are affiliated with the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU). On January 23, question papers meant for that day were disseminated through Telegram and WhatsApp groups, leading to significant anxiety among students.

In light of this incident, an associate professor from SJM Law Maha Vidyalaya and the Chairman of KSLU’s Vigilance Committee-2 lodged a formal complaint at the Cybercrime, Economic Offences, and Narcotics (CEN) police station.

Subsequent to the complaint, the police employed technical analysis and intelligence gathering to track the leak of the Contract Law-1 question paper to a Telegram group. One suspect, a law student, was apprehended at his home in Anekal, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, on January 30.

During interrogation, the student confessed to leaking the question paper and disclosed the involvement of two additional individuals. He was remanded into police custody for a duration of 10 days. During questioning, he acknowledged sharing the Contract Law-1 question paper from his mobile device via the KSLU and KSLU Notes Telegram groups. Following his confession, he was placed in judicial custody.

Authorities subsequently arrested the Vice Principal of Basavashree College of Law in Kolar and his driver, who was also a law student. These arrests occurred on February 15 at their homes in Chintamani and Kolar.

Both suspects admitted to their involvement in the illegal activities. They were taken before the court on February 16 and placed into police custody for six days.

The investigation further revealed that the Vice Principal’s driver had accessed the question papers from the Vice Principal’s mobile phone and distributed them to candidates for a fee, with the full knowledge and consent of the Vice Principal.

The accused confessed to unsealing the question papers at law colleges in Bangarpet and Kolar districts a day prior to the exams, capturing photos, and disseminating them.

The Bengaluru Police Commissioner, B. Dayanand, along with DCP (Crime) Akshay M. Hakey and the cybercrime investigation team, commended the police for their diligent work in resolving this case.
