Bengaluru, Feb 11 (NationPress) Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi has vehemently criticized the assault on police personnel in the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s hometown of Mysuru, labeling it a deeply troubling and regrettable event.
"The law and order condition in Karnataka is worsening with each passing day, and the recent events in Mysuru serve as clear evidence of this decline. Known as the cultural hub of Karnataka, Mysuru is also the Chief Minister's birthplace. If lawbreakers are instigating unrest even in such a prominent location, it starkly reflects the extent to which law and order have deteriorated in the state," he stated.
He denounced the violent onslaught on the Udayagiri police station in Mysuru, where assailants not only vandalized the station but also attacked police officers. "It is quite ironic that such upheavals are occurring in the Chief Minister’s own district," he noted.
In Bengaluru’s Indiranagar, a person reportedly stabbed four individuals, further underscoring the surge in criminal activities across the state. "The climate in Karnataka has become lawless, with criminals and offenders feeling no apprehension about repercussions," he cautioned.
Joshi called on the state administration to implement rigorous measures against such acts of violence and insisted that the perpetrators face harsh penalties. "The government must awaken, safeguard its police force, and guarantee the security of its citizens," he stressed.
In parallel, the former Chief Minister pointed out that the assault on a police station in Mysuru, allegedly influenced by political figures, is a direct affront to the Congress administration, and it remains uncertain how earnestly Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will respond to this occurrence.
Addressing the press in New Delhi on Tuesday, he remarked that various groups and organizations in Karnataka, Kochi, and Tamil Nadu are challenging the nation and its framework through their actions. Although the Popular Front of India (PFI) has been outlawed, its members persist in functioning under different aliases.
Former CM and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai, drawing parallels between the Mysuru situation and previous violent episodes in Mangaluru, KG Halli, DJ Halli, and Hubballi, stated that during the prior BJP administration, strict measures were taken, leading to the incarceration of numerous individuals.
However, following the ascension of the current government, cases against those involved in the Hubballi incident were dropped, branding them innocent despite incriminating CCTV footage. This has seemingly inspired the recent attack on the Mysuru police station and police vehicles, which resulted in injuries to an inspector. Even the vehicle of a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) was targeted, he noted.
“The former CM pointed out that this occurrence took place in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s home district. It remains to be seen how earnestly he will respond. The Chief Minister frequently discusses the Constitution and the rule of law. Will he adhere to the rule of law today, or will he choose to remain silent due to appeasement politics?” Bommai queried.
